Music has consistently been apart of my life from records, cassettes, compact discs, mp3 downloads to streaming. Finding the right app for you is part of this constant voyage for great music. I’m going to share with you what I believe to be the top 5 music apps available for your smart devices. Be sure to comment with any other good apps that might have been missed.
1.) Spotify
Besides Justin Bieber and Coca Cola investing in Spotify, I just think it’s a great app and the platform is beneficial. Your music listening turns social with the profiles that your friends can create. Connecting with Facebook is a great way to follow your friends as they create new playlists that you might be interested in. You can also allow your playlists to be available offline so you’re not streaming the life out of your data plan. My favorite part of the app is that I have access to every genre known to man.
Few scenarios.
At a birthday party…last second I was able to find hundreds of funny versions of Happy Birthday to play for the one being celebrated.
At a Halloween party…needed a good playlist to help the night get by, and I searched, ‘halloween playlist’ and found hundreds perfect playlists to dig through.
In my car reenacting the Indian Jones ride at Disneyland…my truck hits a speedbump an I’m immediately taken back to happy moments bouncing around a jeep dodging snakes and boulders the size of a small apartment. To complete the experience I quickly looked up the Indian Jones theme ride music and cranked it to 11.

Rdio has a good amount of similarities as to Spotify. Creating playlists from millions of songs available from the Rdio servers. Once your playlists are created your able to share them with friends or cache them for offline playback. With a special social network feature you can easily discover new music through your friends.

Set it and forget it…but with music. Choose your favorite artist and you’ll have some easy listenings along your favorite genre. Most of the time with this function I’ll stumble upon new songs that I find I love, while other times I’ll listen to songs that I’ve loved but had forgotten about. And if you love commercials, then stick to the free version of pandora.

The best in live radio is available through the iHeart Radio app. You can create custom radio stations to cater to your exact music taste by logging in through Facebook, or by email.
