‘The Fat Penguin’ is a crazy cool social trivia game, with a dash of controversy – an app that breaks the ice IRL w/ new & old friends (Nominated for a Danish App Award ’12)
From Denmark (where it created a lot of stir), despite being the happiest place in the world (and the first nation to legalize pornography, although any connection between the two is unproven), comes an app that will surely shock some, and have others bursting into fits of uncontrollable laughter.
“The Fat Penguin” (because nothing breaks the ice better, except perhaps a fat polar bear) is a social trivia game, for 2-8 players (IRL), that will challenge the limits of what you consider “TMI”, and how much you are willing to share of your deepest secrets, and freakiest experiences.
Gameplay: Read (or sing) the title out-loud, roll the die, and ask your fellow players the personal question that is high-lighted. Questions like:
– Would you rather win $1.000 (green) or have your best friend win $ 10.000 (red)?
– Would you rather give up your mom’s love (green) or the respect of your friends (red)?
– Would you rather have sex with the person on your right (green) or on your left (red)?
Your fellow players answer secretly with their app’s red & green answer cards. You must now guess their individual answers & see if you can figure them out! It’s a perfect way to get to know new people and learn a lot more about your old friends, to the limits of what is considered “TMI”.
It was criticized* in Denmark for being too sexual regarding its inquisitive content, but despite this, it has been used in special education purposes for the mentally challenged, “in order to give them a fun and innocent way to talk about sex, which is especially hard for my students”, says Julie Rasmussen of Langagerskolen (School for the Mentally Challenged).
