MedSpan

This program is designed for medical professionals who need to conduct medical interviews and examinations with patients whose primary language is Spanish (or Spanish to English). Based on the course taught at the University of California School of Medicine to medical students, physicians and students in the Master of Public health programs, it includes the “Review of systems” usually used, and common medical instructions, as well as questions on family health and medicines/drugs and emergencies.

MedSpan for the iPhone or iPod Touch translatse the most fundamental medical interview questions from English to Spanish. MedSpan not only facilitates examinations, but also utilizes new portable information technology to expedite physician record-keeping. While other applications merely offer vocabulary, MedSpan allows a health worker to save interview notes on the iPhone/iPod and send results to a designated email account. This program will be of great use to medical professionals in serving Spanish-speaking patients–especially health providers working at the outlying migrant clinics.

Many of the questions are presented in a “yes/no” format and answers can be preserved in a database on the iPhone/iPod Touch and from which they can be sent to a receiving email address, providing a means for managing computerized record-keeping.
Notes on each question can be taken and recorded.

The program can also be used as a simple translation guide.
