Most of the time when I review applications I spend about ten minutes tinkering around with all of the options in order to test the features and see what they can do. I spent more than an hour on Ivory Tiles, which should give you a good indication of how much I enjoyed. I would say it’s easily the most addictive iPhone game I’ve played since a friend introduced me to Cube Runner many months ago.
The app’s logo made me think it was a Mahjong game (which would have also been fun), but it’s actually a game that involves using the tilt function on your iPhone to moves tiles around a space littered with obstacles in order to rest the tiles in appropriate spots. It starts out simple enough, but gets progressively harder as you increase to different levels. With sometimes more than half a dozen tiles on the screen at once, you begin to realize that you’re playing a strategic problem solving game and you didn’t even know it. Add in the soothing Chinese music in the background and you’ve got yourself one great game.
