As you may know, ISO is one of the three main settings that determine the exposure of your photos. Accordingly, the Canon 70D has quite a few settings related to ISO. Here’s how to set the ISO manually, as well as how to adjust the parameters for automatic ISO adjustment on your Canon 70D:
By pressing the dedicated ISO button on the top of the camera or by using the Quick Settings button, you can adjust the ISO on the fly in any Creative Zone shooting mode (check out our Shooting Modes on Canon 70D article). Manual ISO adjustments are disabled in Basic Zone shooting modes.
Navigate to the ISO Speed Settings menu on the third tab of the Settings menu. In this menu, we have four selections:
- ISO Speed lets you manually adjust the current ISO speed, just as through the dedicated ISO button.
- ISO Speed Range lets you adjust the range of ISO you can manually select. Minimum ISO on the Canon 70D is 100, and the maximum is 26800. When selecting the highest settings, you will see indications of the ISO behavior under movie mode.
- Auto ISO Range gives you the ability to adjust how low and high the camera’s Auto ISO is allowed to adjust to.
- Minimum Shutter Speed is a setting that is most useful when using the Program (P) or Aperture Priority (Av) shooting modes, as very low shutter speeds will introduce blur in photos of a moving subject.
