How to Use Blinkfeed on HTC One M9

You may have accidentally swiped into Blinkfeed on your HTC One M9 and been confused by the grid of seemingly unrelated bits of news and media. What is Blinkfeed, how do you use it, how do you customize it? We answer all these questions below:

Blinkfeed is a feature exclusive to the HTC Sense Home launcher and HTC Android devices, and combines into one place updates from your social media and new sources for a curated experience. Blinkfeed is enabled by default and accessed by swiping right on the home screen into the dedicated home screen page. When you first open Blinkfeed on your HTC One M9, you’ll be prompted to add sources like your twitter and facebook feeds, as well as content sources like blogs and news sites.

How Do I Use Blinkfeed?

Using Blinkfeed is the easiest part! Just swipe right at the home screen to open Blinkfeed, scroll through the latest and most interesting updates, and tap on anything you like to read and interact with content. Pretty much everything you tap on can be shared via one of your social networks or messaging apps or saved to a convenient reading list so that you can revisit it later. Access the reading list, as well as a list of specific topics and services you’re subscribed to, by swiping open the menu from the left screen edge.

How Do I Customize Blinkfeed?

Blinkfeed draws content from multiple sources, and those sources are chosen by you. Most of your favorite social networking services can be integrated into Blinkfeed: you can use Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr, and more, simply by having the service’s app installed on your HTC One M9 and giving permission to Blinkfeed to use it.

To customize Blinkfeed’s content, swipe into Blinkfeed, then swipe into the menu by dragging from the left screen edge towards the middle. This opens Blinkfeed’s menu and shows search, topics, and services & apps. Tap on the three dot icon at the top of the menu to open another menu that gives you access to Services & Apps, Add Content, Remove Content, Settings, and Tips & Help. Tap on Services & Apps to see the list of apps and networks that Blinkfeed is either currently using or can be used when enabled. Check or uncheck any select you want to start or stop using that source.

From Blinkfeed’s menu, tap on the Plus button at the top to browse other sources from the web. Choose from one of the categories to get the most popular sources for that topic, and checkmark any source that sounds interesting to you. Don’t like something you see, or maybe you’re just no longer interested? Go to Remove Content in the dot menu to remove any blinkfeed sources.
