These days our smartphones are by far the number one device to take pictures with. With the advances in microscopic camera technology, these photos can be super high quality. But what if we want more control than simply aiming and firing? Check out how to use the myriad of advanced camera controls on your Galaxy Note 5’s camera app for maximum control over your photos:
- First, launch the camera by tapping on Camera in the app drawer or using one of the camera shortcuts. Learn more about the camera shortcuts in our article How to Quickly Take Photos on the Galaxy Note 5.
- At the top of the screen, you will see the quick settings icons. Here you have access to:
- Camera Settings (gear icon)
- Picture size and resolution
- Flash mode
- Timer mode
- HDR mode
- Photo Effects
- The arrow at the end of quick settings will show or hide the quick settings icons.
- Tap the Mode button to view and switch to any of the camera modes available:
- Auto automatically adjusts the exposure to optimize the color and brightness of pictures. In Auto mode, you can take single or burst shots (take burst shots by holding Capture to take multiple shots until you lift your finger).
- Slow motion & Fast motion will take video at either a higher or lower than normal speed. This allows you to slow down or speed up the action in your videos.
- Panorama will take multiple pictures to merge into one expansive picture. You can create a horizontal or vertical panorama.
- Virtual tour allows you to create an interactive virtual tour of your surroundings.
- Dual camera will take pictures and record videos using the front and rear cameras at the same time, and creates a picture-in-picture photo. You can switch between the front and rear camera to control which picture appears in the smaller shot.
- Download lets you browse and download additional modes to use with Camera.
- Switch between the front and rear-facing cameras using the icon with two arrows next to the shutter button.
- Begin recording video with the video camera button on the other side of the shutter button.
- Finally, tap on the Gallery icon to view all of your photos in the Gallery app.
- In the Camera Settings menu, you have a variety of options available to you. Some options might not be available in certain camera modes. Some of the options available are:
- Video size
- Video stabilization
- Grid lines
- Location tags
- Review pictures
- Quick launch
- Voice control
- Volume keys function
- Shutter sound
Live Broadcast
Live Broadcast is a mode exclusive to the Galaxy Note 5 to live stream video directly to YouTube. To enable Live Broadcast:
- Tap on the Mode button in the camera app.
- Tap on Live Broadcast.
- If you have not already done so, you’ll be prompted to log in with your Google/YouTube account.
- Tap Invite to send invitations to watch your live broadcast to your contacts.
- Tap the shutter button to begin your Live Broadcast.
- Tap the shutter button again to finish your broadcast.
- Once done, you can tap Share to share your broadcast.
- Settings for Live Broadcast can be adjusted by entering Live Broadcast mode in your camera, then tapping on the Settings icon.
