One of the benefits of Android phones is that there are a lot more options for customization than other types of phones. Even the way we navigate through the phone and launch apps can be altered to fit our preferences by installing and using launchers other than the one supplied with our phone.
The Launcher on Android phones is downloaded like an app, but it controls the functions of the home screen, including apps, widgets, pages, and more. Different launchers provide different features that you often don’t find in the pre-installed launcher, and is a great way to tweak and customize your device. Here’s how to install and use alternate launchers on the Nexus 6:
- Download a new launcher from the Google Play Store. Here at StateOfTech, we like Action Launcher for it’s flexibility and speed.
- Once downloaded tap Open on the app page in the Play Store, or find the Action Launcher app icon on your home screen.
- You will be guided through a short set up process.
- After the launcher is active, the next time you return to the home screen, Android will ask which launcher you wish to use. Select the new launcher.
To switch or remove launchers:
- Open Settings and then open the Home menu.
- Here you see a list of the currently installed launchers, and the selected launcher is the currently active one.
- Select any launcher you wish to use, or:
- Tap the Trash can icon next to any launcher to delete it from your phone.
