How to Factory Reset your Nexus 6

At some point, you might want or need to make your phone as clean as the day you got it. Whether you’re selling or giving your device away when upgrading, or you just want to start fresh, here’s how to reset your Nexus 6 to factory settings:

  1. Before factory resetting your phone, make sure you have backed up or downloaded any data you want to preserve, such as photos and videos.
  2. Open the Settings app, then tap on Backup and Reset.
  3. In addition to the backup settings in this screen, you will find a Factory data reset option towards the bottom.
  4. Tap on Factory reset data.
  5. You will see a list of the items that will be deleted when you reset your Nexus 6 to factory settings.
  6. Tap Reset Phone, then Erase everything after being told “You can’t reverse this action!”
  7. Your phone will complete resetting then restart, where you will be greeted with the same launch sequence as when the phone was turn on for the first time.
