How to Backup your Samsung Galaxy S6

We’ve all been there before: something terrible happens to our device (like taking a dive into the toilet, or fallen into a storm drain, or been the victim of a two year-old), and suddenly lose access to all of the data stored within. Losing treasured photos, videos, and other media can be heartbreaking. Luckily, there are ways to prevent losing that data completely. Check out how to backup and restore your Samsung Galaxy S6:

  • Open the Backup and reset menu in the Personal page of the Settings app.
  • Tap Backup Account. If you have not already done so, sign into a Google or Samsung account.
  • Switch the toggle next to Backup my data to the on position. Depending on which account you have signed into, your data will be regularly backed up to either Samsung’s or Google’s servers.
  • Switch the toggle next to Automatic restore to on. If at some point you lose the ability to use your device, signing into a new device will ask if you want to restore the new device to the same settings as your backed up device. This saves a lot of time in initial setup if you want to seamlessly switch to a new device.
