GoPro HERO4 Session: How to Update Software

Though your HERO4 Session camera already comes with a ton of awesome features, new and improved features can be added to your camera simply by updating its software. Here are the three ways to update GoPro Session’s software to get the most out of your camera:

As mentioned above, there are three ways to update the software on your Session. Let’s walk though each method:

Via the GoPro App:

1. Download and connect your Session to the GoPro app on your iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone. Check out our guide on how to get the app and your camera synced.
2. Select the HERO4 Session after tapping Connect your Camera in the main screen.
3. If there is a software update available for the Session, you will see a Software Update button.
4. After tapping the Software Update button, you will see the release notes as well as a legal disclaimer.
5. After agreeing to the disclaimer, your device will begin downloading the update and transferring to the Session camera. The camera’s display will read “Downloading Update”.
6. Your camera will automatically begin installing the update and restarting.
7. After restarting, reconnect the Session to the GoPro app. Your HERO4 Session is now updated to the latest software.

With GoPro Studio

1. Download and install GoPro Studio on your computer.
2. Launch GoPro Studio.
3. Connect your Session camera to the computer with the included USB cable.
4. If there is an update, the Camera Software Update window will open. Click Continue.
5. Read the GoPro Firmware License and check the box to confirm you accept the terms. Click Continue.
6. The camera software update will be downloaded and installed on the camera.
7. Once the installer in Studio states the update was successful, click Done.

Manual Installation

1. Go to the software update page for the HERO4 Session.
2. Under “Other ways to update” click “Update your camera manually.”
3. Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
4. Click “Download Update.”
5. Click “Click here to download firmware.”
6. Follow the steps on the screen for detailed instructions for your operating system.
