You’ve heard it said before, and we’ll say it again…Just go with the flow. Amazon released a new app for the iOS system recently and it is already at the top of the charts. Currently this app has 4.5/5 stars and is number one on iTunes featured new apps page, so we decided to check it out.
This app is primarily for books, video games, dvds and cds. The whole premise of the app is using the functionality of the camera in the iOS device. You simply point the app at the cover of the item and it scans it. Once the data is loaded into the app it automatically pulls up information on the product as well as buying options, reviews, product descriptions. You can share your item with your pals via email, Facebook, and Twitter, or even see related products.
Not only is this app productive, it’s fun to use as well. I scanned a few items and showed it to my girlfriend, who ran around the house scanning things to see just what the app could pick up. Some items it didn’t recognize, but to our surprise, it even found the box of cereal in the cupboard. Amazon is adding new products all the time and the list of scan-able items is sure to grow.
From the list icon in the app, the user is presented with a few options. History, Help, Contact Us, and About. The history tab allows you to see every successful item that has been scanned and found by the app. You can sort this list by date, category, or alphabetically. You can use the map button to see where you were when you scanned a certain item, or the edit button to remove items from your list.
A nice thing I noticed about this app is that it does not store any of the pictures that it takes in the camera roll. It actually doesn’t take any pictures at all. It simply scans the logo, cover, or barcode of the item desired to search and does just that, searches for it.
This app is a sure winner, especially in this day and age, I am on Tumblr all the time and I’ll see that someone posted a product that I am really interested in, but they provided no link to get to said product. I’ll simply scan the item and hope that this app can help me out in finding it so I don’t have to fall asleep at night with the heave woes of not being able to order that special print, limited edition, Dalmatian puppy Snuggie that I do desperately need but was unable to find.
