Team DailyAppShow Review by Michael R:
Deej is an app designed for the novice DJ. It provides you with many of the common controls found on a professional mixing table. All of the key components are there from the cross fader to the ability to change pitch.
Starting at the beginning the first thing you will notice is how well the app is designed. The developers really took their time to use the real estate of the iPad well. The app is laid out just like a mixing table with one virtual “turntable” on ones side, and another on the other side. You are also prompted with a tutorial, which does a great job of explaining how to use the app. Once you are done with the tutorial you have already been exposed to the many features that the app offers. This is where the novice user will learn what all of the components can do. More experienced users are not forced to go through the tutorial though so they can get right into mixing.
Once getting through the tutorial I was well on my way to mixing with two songs from my own iTunes library. I was able to fade, change pitch, gain, bass, mid, treble, and the volume very easily. The buttons take advantage of the multi-touch interface quite well as I was lowering the volume on one track, raising the volume on the other, and cross fading all at the same time. The control never jumped or moved in a jagged motion but rather was smooth throughout this process. The app also has virtual headphone jacks that allow you to simulate left and right. You can even set cue points and jog the song that is playing. When using the jog feature you have two options that are vinyl, or cd. Both functions work as you would expect.
In the settings area you can set items such as pitch, EQ, default jog modes and pitch. There are the default settings that will be loaded when starting any mixing. You can adjust them manually when you are actually mixing.
Possibly the coolest feature is the ability to share your mix with friends. The standard options are available (twitter, facebook) along with others such as iTunes, ReadItLater, Google Reader and more.
Deej is a great app for both novices and more experienced users who want a virtual way to mix music.
