I had ordered parts to build a third Ethereum mining rig while I work through the one card per customer order limit of Newegg and Amazon when they have the cards I want in stock. The CPU, which was the last part, arrived today so I filmed a three card build to make use of the three Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 cards I had waiting for the next build.
For the first time, I tried cloning the drive from my first rig but ended up having some issues with bootup. I would get a blue screen stating that Windows could not find hardware it needed. I narrowed the problem down to an issue with the EFI partition having a problem. I tried booting into recovery to use the command prompt to repair it, but I was unsuccessful. I ended up reinstalling Windows which meant starting over. Thankfully, I was able to get it up and running quickly.
Two of the three Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB cards were Micron memory cards so I did not bother modding the bios. One card was Samsung memory so I modded the bios on that card by copying the 1750 strap to the 2000 strap. Once all cards were connected I was hashing between 89-92mh/s on Ethereum using the Claymore miner. There is a bit more optimization I can do in MSI Afterburner.
I am going to monitor this rig for the next 24 hours and then start to tweak it a bit. I need to build an open-air case for this rig. I have a couple of concepts I am working on. Once I land on the build design I am going to film the build of the case for those who are interested.
